Lazy E Rig on Hartley 16

Post by Laobu »

Hi everyone,

I am not an experienced sailor, and I have bought a second hand fibreglass Hartley TS16. Boat and trailer are great. However, I have found that the mast and sails are not from a traditional Hartley TS16 rig. They are from a Lazy E.

Should I be concerned? I won't be racing. Cruising only. I'm happy to sail mainsail only if the weather deteriorates. I'll also be looking into how I can reef the mainsail if necessary (it has two reefing points but no attachments on the boom etc).

I will be sailing single-handed.

Any advice/suggestions/warnings will be gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

PS: I live in Cairns.

Just my opinion. You'll be fine. Although most Hartley TS owners stick with the standard design rig, there are cases where owners have put different rig designs on the vessel with success. It is a beamy stable boat and quite versatile.
