Greetings everyone,I have completed repairs to front section of my boat and was wondering what is the preferred method of protecting the underneath [Skeg I think ]
This had previously been coated with fibre glass and cloth but all peeled off and had trapped water where boat sat on front rollers. It also had stainless right angle channel atached with gal phillips heads screws that were all rusty.
Perhaps I could reatach with heaps of sickaflexor or fit a brass strip
So far I have coated with epoxy and filled the area of rot as was localised to one area.
What I have found is that applying by roller is better as went on to thick with brush on the section I previously coated at the rear.
I used the rough grinder thing on my home renovator tool to level all the dribbles at the rear and went back into timber and bits of epoxy came off so have completely ground back again.
The front section seemed to take better and was able to sand mostly by hand with 40 grit.
I know the epoxy is not meant to go hard and brittle so perhaps tool was a bit brutal.
Any thoughts on wear strip would be appreciated.
As you can see in the photos attached that there has been several repairs underneath so that will be next project.
Have given up having boat ready this season but perhaps will be finnished enough to cruise up the Shoalhven later in the year. Ian theobald
