I feel that a lot of members on this forum are also members of the forum on trailersailerplace.com.au
Has anyone had problems accessing the forum and chat links on that site?.

I have been unable to access the forum for some days now. I contacted the administrator on Sunday and he said they're working on it. Really missing it.

Hi Jim,

Yes, I am missing it too!.

Just picked up a new toy from ebay, a Garmin GPS72, allegedly waterproof and floats as well. Only paid about half the new cost, and the unit is unmarked (perhaps it is hot!), so for my next trip will be able to store tracks and have waypoints loaded before we go.

Cheers,

Hey David,

Tested the GPS on the weekend at 1 of the last races for the season.

Was a real blast with flattish water, wind 20 to 25kts, and a long course (13nm), in a multi leg/ lap track on the Tamar river. We logged 17nm in just over 3 hours, at a GPS average of 5.3kts and as high tide was roughly half way throu the course, its effect where cancelled. On the running legs with the spinnaker we only occasionaly got on the plane, but still managed to log a maximum of 9.7 (not quite a 10!) that was very exciting I can assure you.

Have found the Garmin to be very nice to use, and been able to upload tracks to my PC via serial cable etc. Only trouble at the moment is with datums between maps and GPS (within about 200m at this stage).

Cheers,

Richo

surprised you didn't get someone to run from the stern to the bow just to get that big 10...
;)
or is that just what I'd do

I would have expected an out of around 10 meters but 200... still they add a whole new level to post outing analysis... were you able to identify anything that you could do better?

But I have taxied from the terminal area of the old Brisbane airport to the compass swinging bay that was in the NE corner of the airport just to see our new fangled Omega strut its stuff. We thought all our Christmases had come at once.
